The Commons is one of them new-fangled, hip, modern “community spaces” that are just so on trend and hipstery that I WANT to not like them, but how can I not like a place that houses mini-versions of all the best quality local eats an shops and provides functional, multi-use group gathering spaces that fosters collaboration and togetherness?? Seriously, I can’t. I know, because I’ve tried.
Did I mention how they have some of my favorite restaurants? A full sized location of Roast. “Soulfood 555”, a mini outpost of Soul Food Mahanakorn that sells special menu items only available at this location (Hello, Soi Cowboy Burger). Peppina. Barrio Bonito. Etc, etc, etc. It’s a foodie food court paradise. Oh and it even has a semi-speakeasy bar that is one of my favorites in Bangkok: Track 17.
Did you guess that there’d be an artisanal coffee shop as well? Because you really shoulda seen that coming. And of course Roots brews up a mean cup o’ joe including all kinds of monthly specials that are also creative AND delicious which makes this one of my favorite coffee shops in Bangkok.
So as much as I’m that cliche expat who flocks to The Commons, you can find me at The Commons. BUT you can also find lots of hip young Thais enjoying this space which is truly for the community of Bangkok. Well, the hipster ones at least.
