Bangkok Restaurant Review: Soul Food Mahanakorn

Sign for Soul Food Mahanakorn in Thonglo, Bangkok

Not too far up on the right side of Soi Sukhumvit 55 in Thonglo you will see this sign for a small shophouse restaurant that is hands down one of the best in Bangkok. Clean, modern, & welcoming decor. Delightful & attentive staff. Well balanced cocktails. Super delicious and authentic Thai food. The only “problem” with Soul Food Mahanakorn is that it’s well deserved reputation proceeds it and it is one of the few restaurants in Bangkok where you can legitimately have a hard time scoring a table without a reservation.

Yam Hua Plee, Yam Som-O, & Southern Thai Samosas Soul Food Mahanakorn in Thonglo, Bangkok

Luckily, my friends and I had one, so we had the distinct pleasure of dining here on a Friday night. We started our first round of Signature Cocktails, knowing full well that we’d have to do a second round because it was so hard to choose. We then ordered our starters: Yam Hua Plee (Banana Flowers Salad), Yam Som-O (Pomelo Salad), & Southern Thai Samosas. I mean, just look at them. And yes, they tasted as good (if not better) than they look!

Isaan and Chiang Mai Sausages with Nahm Prik Num Soul Food Mahanakorn in Thonglo, Bangkok

For our main dish we shared the Isaan and Chiang Mai Sausages with Nahm Prik Num. This was all plenty of food for 3 people.

While a little on the pricier side, Soul Food is my go-to pick for well – anytime. But especially for visitors who want authentic food, but may be wary about street food – maybe just because they want to sit in a lovely, air conditioned environment and enjoy an alcholic bevvy alongside.
