Bangkok Restaurant Review: Na Aroon

Na Aroon: Nam Prik Salmon

I have to have some physical therapy for an injury so am finding myself at Bumrungrad Hospital very frequently these days. After several hours of appointments, I was in desperate need of some lunch so was delighted to discover that Na Aroon was just a block away. I visited this restaurant back when I originally moved to Thailand with some friends who were staying in the Ploen Chit area and found it absolutely charming.

The restaurant of the Ariyasom Villa, it is situated in a mini oasis-like garden with lovely boutique, welcoming atmosphere. Dining here feels like a retreat. And if you are so inclined, it can also be a healthy option. They serve mostly vegetarian food with some seafood here and there. I ordered the Nam Prik Salmon (a traditional Thai paste) served with blanched and raw vegetables and edible flowers. This dish was satisfying in every way – healthy, yet super tasty and enough for two meals.

Unfortunately, the selection of desserts freshly made by the owner are way too tempting to resist, so it’s impossible to walk away without a little treat. I ordered the Bread & Butter Pudding served with fresh cream and vanilla ice cream. It was absolutely delicious, but also a large portion so some of it came home with me to recreate the meal the next day. As much as I love my apartment, it could not rival the relaxed environment of Na Aroon. I’m looking forward to coming back to try more of their menu – it will make me look forward to having to visit Bumrungrad!
