I’ve heard so much praise over Charcoal Tandoor Grill & Mixology that I frankly started to get nervous about trying it because it was going to be a really tall order to live up to all of the hype. Finally, the opportunity arrived and I was invited out with a group of incredibly cool people.
We started snacking on the papadum and dips and I selected my first cocktail: The New Delhi Duty Free which was served in a duty free bag with a passport. A little gimmicky? Yes, but I totally ate it up. Or rather, drank it up. It was super refreshing with a little bit of a spicy kick – the perfect way to start the meal.
I was grateful to let the experienced member of our group do the food ordering because everything sounded so amazing that it would have been a tough choice. Soon succulent tandoor delicacies arrived at our table and I was in utter food heaven. Even the broccoli was ridiculously tasty! The meats we tried (lamb & chicken) were melt-in-your-mouth tender and exquisitely seasoned.
But it’s not just about the food! There is a good reason “& Mixology” is part of the restaurant’s name. Charcoal completes the trifecta of amazing cocktail places from Soho Hospitality Group along with it’s sister bars Havana Social and Above Eleven (aka the only reason I go to Nana ever). The cocktail menu is designed by famed Bangkok bartender and fellow New Yorker Joseph Boroski.
The Nikobar Iced Chai Tea is unlike any other cocktail I’ve ever had. I absolutely loved the DIY presentation where you get to add the spices and liquors you want.
I was also super excited about the Mystic Tea Pot which was glittery and gorgeous, incredibly unique, and delicious.
Not only did Charcoal live up to the high praise – it even surpassed it! Gorgeous interior design and ambience, a fantastic drink menu, and orgasm-in-your-mouth tasty food make this a truly exceptional restaurant.
