Casa Lapin
I had a lot of things to get done this weekend and was going a little stir crazy in my apartment, so when some new friends talked up the great coffee shops in Ari, it was quickly decided that this would be a good thing to do with my Saturday. I took inspiration from BK Mag’s A guide to spending an entire day in Ari and started the day at Casa Lapin.
To my delight, my coffee was made with a scientific flair. The water temperature was carefully monitored as it was my poured over the meticulously weighed coffee to drip into a lab beaker. It was then served to me in an adorable wooden tray (with a shot of seltzer which I still do not understand?).
I was disappointed to not find the Breakfast Burrito touted by BK Mag’s Casa Lapin x Aree review on the menu, so instead I enjoyed some of their homemade granola which was not disappointing in the least.
I spent a few hours here and had a variety of seating options – a bench & table, an arm chair with power outlets, and more. The place was almost always full, but not so full that I didn’t have my choice of tables. But finally, I needed to stretch my legs, so I took a stroll over to….
Hidden Cafe
It looks hidden down this alley, but contrary to the name, there is a ton of signage guiding your way in.
I’m still not sure if this Marshmallow Coffee I ordered was actually Marshmallow flavored or just had some marshmallows on top. Either way it was good and I had this cafe almost to myself for several hours. They also had a nice outdoor seating area. After another couple of hours, I considered ordering some food here, but wanted to walk around a little so I strolled around until I found…
Lay Lao
Although I kind of felt like a chump for walking by several Som Tam street food vendors and going to a sit down place for Som Tam, I had a lovely little patio seat with WiFi and power outlets which couldn’t be beat. Plus the Som Tam was super fresh.
Feeling a lot better with some food in my stomach, I wandered down to my last coffee shop of the day…
Porcupine Cafe
So incredibly adorable. And big – several rooms with spaces to work.
Since I was fairly coffee-d out by now, I got a Red Tea Latte instead which was a lovely alternative. Finally, I decided I got enough accomplished and one of my new friends stopped by and we headed to…
Numthong Gallery at Aree
To see Anon Pairot’s “Absurd Aesthetic” – a truly interesting exhibition. And since it was the opening they had a little reception with a buffet and a pad thai station which was delicious. From there, we were heading to another gallery, but this time a party marking the closing of an exhibition. But on our way to the BTS, we took a pit stop to grab a drink at…
Fat Bird
We each enjoyed a Roseapple Martini which were delightful and refreshing and a great cap to the end of my day in Ari! From there, we headed down to Chinatown to end our night with another gallery and some live jazz.
