Walk down an alley this Nana, Bangkok where there is a somewhat incongruous “Telefono” booth. Step inside and make a call to find the back of the booth opens to another time and place. This my friends, is the magic of a speakeasy.
Thus magically transported to Havana, Cuba in the 60s, I settle in on a bar stool to listen to some jazz music and sip on a Rum Old Fashioned. After a few minutes, the handsome man next to me asks me if I come here often (my first!).
I’m completely enthralled with the entire vibe and am noticing all of the meticulous design details that serve to make the experience completely immersive. Then the mysterious man tells me that he is in fact, Rohit – the owner and designer of this remarkable establishment. God, I love Bangkok.
I continue to immerse myself in the jazz music and ambience and enjoy another cocktail. This time – The Ricardo Robson – a rum based drink served with a piece of honeycomb so the drink gets sweeter the longer you let it linger. All of this topped with a rose petal, because apparently this place is meant to especially delight me.
Another winner from the Soho Hospitality group which is doing it’s absolute best to provide some classy options in Nana.
